What Should Be Included in a Professional Full Detail?
A genuine full detail includes a safe hand wash, chemical and mechanical decontamination, wheel and wheel-well cleaning, exterior trim and glass, a full interior deep clean, and a protective layer applied to paint. Anything sold as a full detail that skips decontamination or protection is a wash with extra steps. The service should take hours, not forty-five minutes.
Exterior: the sequence that should happen

- 02Pre-rinse and foam to lift loose grit before contact.
- 03Contact wash using two-bucket or rinseless method with clean media.

What a full detail is not
A full detail does not permanently remove swirl marks, scratches, or water-spot etching. Those require paint correction, which is a separate, measured process involving cutting and refining the clear coat.
Some shops use a glaze or all-in-one polish during a detail, which temporarily fills defects and makes paint look corrected. It looks excellent for two or three washes, then the defects reappear. That isn't dishonest by itself — it becomes a problem when it's sold as correction.

Is engine bay cleaning part of a full detail?
Usually not by default on modern vehicles. It's offered as an add-on and should be done carefully with covered electronics — it's standard for show prep and collector vehicles.
Should a full detail include waxing?
It should include some form of protection. On a coated car, that's a coating-safe maintenance topper rather than a traditional wax, which would sit on top of the coating and reduce its performance.
Do I need a full detail if my car looks clean?
Possibly. Bonded contamination and iron fallout are invisible — a clean-looking car can still be rough to the touch and overdue for decontamination.
